Operating Engineers Local Union No. 612

Operating Engineers’ work covers all Highway, Marine, Heavy Construction, and Engineering projects including Mining, Drilling, Surveying, Utilities and Site Development.

The International Union of Operating Engineers issued a Hoisting and Portable Charter to IUOE Local 612 in 1935. Local 612’s jurisdiction covers Pierce, Thurston, Lewis and a portion of Pacific counties in Washington State.

IUOE Local 612 and IUOE Local 302 formed a joint Pension Trust on January 1, 1957 and on December 13, 1957 a joint Health & Welfare Trust was formed.

In 1972 Local 612 and Local 302 formed the Washington-Alaska Construction Industry Training Program and in June 1975, the IUOE granted 302/612 an apprenticeship charter. The “state of the art” training facility is located on 1600 acres outside of Ellensburg. The joint apprenticeship and training program is a union/management partnership designed to train apprentices and provide skill improvement and related training to Operating Engineers on an ongoing basis.
