Business Representative Earl Liss

Dear Brothers and Sisters,

The work in District 2 is beginning to pick up after a long winter that was made even longer by the downturn in the housing market. I hope that you had the opportunity to utilize the Training Center keeping your certifications and skills upgraded.

Scarsella Brothers was the successful low bidder on the I-5 widening from Grand Mound to Maytown as noted on the home page. Scarsella is already working on the I-5 Rush Road project and will expand their presence to service both projects. Work on the Maytown project should begin in May. Utility relocations have already begun adjacent to the Maytown Exit.

Sterling Breen Construction has begun the site work on the new Accountability and Restitution Center in Mottman Park. In case you’re wondering, this is the politically correct term for a jail. They will also be doing some major intersection work on Harrison Avenue beginning in June. This will be night work.

Alpha Development is the apparent successful low bidder on the North Street and 14th Avenue Projects in Tumwater and Olympia. While Ceccanti continues on the Lacey Athletic complex.

In East Lewis County Harlow Construction has begun the improvements to Taidapum Park at the head of Riffe Lake. Pilchuck is moving utilties along Highway 7 between Mineral and Morton. Schwiesow is making improvements to the Mossyrock High School Gymnasium. Snelson Companies are working on collection and compressor improvements at Jackson Prairie.

There is still a good deal of work coming to bid. As always the Local works hard to maintain and increase our market share of the industry. Let there be no doubt, your performance and professionalism is our top marketing tool.

Earl Liss
